But Wait, I Forgot the Best Part....

This is another reason I stopped blogging....once Boodge stopped napping, the only time I had to write was in the evening when my brain is misfiring and I have trouble keeping track of what I want to say.  Which is probably why last night, somehow, I forgot to mention that I intend to keep blogging in a different way, at my professional website! I won't be sharing as personally, but I do still hope to share useful information, as well as words of hope and inspiration and connection at my new blog.  I am always learning about parenting and mental health so this is a space I hope to share my learning.

You can find it here: http://www.katyjohnson.ca/.

Blessings to all of you.

Going Off Line

It's been a long time.  Almost six months since I last wrote here at a Mama Being.  Boodge is four and a half Peanut is TWO!!! My baby talks in full sentences and can sing many songs and likes to watch Micky Mouse Clubhouse while standing on her head on the couch.  So many moments I thought of coming here to share, so many times I thought of this blog and how much it has brought to me, being able to share and receive back your sharing, to feel connected to all of you out there, to even reach strangers in other countries across the world|! As small as this blog has been it has been so rewarding.

But things have to change.  I'm going back to the world of paid employment.  I'm going to be a counsellor again.  I'm not sure what that looks like now that I'm a mother.  Motherhood transformed every aspect of my life, so it stands to reason that it will impact my counselling practice too.   But I finally feel that I can start finding out.  The kids are ready, and I'm ready.  Ready as I'll ever be.

I have a small job, facilitating a support group for single mothers (unsung heroes of all time).  It has been bubbling for months now and will finally be starting up in November.  It pays enough that I was able to rent a shared office in town and still have some left over.  So I'm starting a private practice!  I am excited and nervous. I have no idea if I'll get any clients, but I'm going to give it a try.  I hope to find a gentle balance between doing a little bit of work and maintaining my amazing job as full-time mother for my kids.  As Boodge approaches kindergarten (gasp) I am more poignantly aware of how precious these days really are.  So, my plan is just a little work, to add a little to the family coffers and contribute to my community, doing the work I love.

Unfortunately, that means I have to take Mama Being off the web.  I have struggled with this fact for a long time.  I value openness, and one thing that I struggle with in my chosen profession is finding the boundary of how much is too much when it comes to letting clients see into my own life. I like to bring my genuine self to my work, and am willing to share from personal experience if I think it may benefit the client.  I don't like the psychotherapy cliche of the impassive, blank slate of a therapist.  But still, it can complicate things when you know too much about your counsellor--cause you to say certain things, hold others back.  Change the dynamic of the relationship to one where it is no longer just about the client, as it should be. They don't pay to talk about me, after all, or think about me for that matter.  And so if one of them was in on this conversation, this blog, without my knowing, or even with my knowing....it just wouldn't feel right.  It would create a sort of dual relationship that can become awkward, and that can jeapordize the therapeutic relationship.

So, after mulling it over, I've decided to make Mama Being private.  I'd still like to be able to write here from time to time, and I like having people to share it with.  I can add up to 200 people so I'm pretty sure I can fit you all in (ha ha).  If you'd like to be able to still read what I post, you'll have to have a Google account.  Please send me an e-mail to amamabeing@gmail.com, or leave a comment here on the blog, and ask that you be added to the list.  I'll give it a few weeks, and then I'll be taking the blog off  the air.

Whatever becomes of us, I want to thank each and every one of you who took the time to read the words I wrote here. It has given me so much to be able to reach out from the muck and mire and joy and wonder of parenting and find you there, listening, nodding your heads in understanding, and laughing and crying along with me.
